Malkin got his goal at 18:38 of the second period, jamming the puck over the goal line after Brodeur stopped a shot from inside the right circle by Recchi. Brodeur appeared to have the puck covered with his leg pads, but defenseman Ryan Whitney knocked it loose before Malkin swooped in and nudged it into the net.
"That first goal was very important," Malkin said. "In the future, I think it's going to be easier."
